Droopys Hester proved himself as a real-go-getter after declaring himself undefeatable
As expected, who could have presented a hit at Romford race track, when champ Droopys Hester was among the six finalists of the Coral Champion Stakes Final? Obviously trainer J Wright’s champ, holding up the first position since the Heats, did not gave any of his contenders a chance to defeat him.
On 7th September, 2011, keeping his chin up, the young victor stole the show when he proclaimed himself the first one to cross the wire.
As the trap opened for the three-year-old hound, wearing black and white number 4, he railed through his contenders, covering the initial distance with superb pace.
The black and white dog, with his swiftness, became a threat for his competitors, who tried their level best to defeat him to win the prestigious event
Although Droopys Hester got bumped in when he was 1 length away from the finish line, he got his elbow greased up and took himself out from the hassling situation.
Leading the race again, with ¾ a length left, Droopys Vieri’s son out Droopys Maddy gave a tremendous hit and won the purse for trainer J Wright.
11/8 favourite, Droopys Hester, covered the 575 meters distance in a total time of 35.59 seconds.
Trainer N Savva’s 5/2 favourite, Westmead Maldini, had a head to head competition with the winner. The three-year-old was a shoulder away when Droopys Hester crossed the wire.
Westmead Maldini, wearing red and white number 1, could have experienced the taste of victory, had he started his chase on a faster pace.
Unfortunately, the blue dog, son of Droopys Maldini out of Mega Delight, who was the purse winner in the semifinals, finished second in the finals with a total time of 35.60 seconds.
Westmead Maldini was followed by the three-year-old Droopys Luisao, also trained by J Wright for this race.
The black dog, wearing black and white stripes with red number 6, finished third by 2 ½ lengths.
9/2 favourite, Droopys Luisao ran really well while covering the initial distance. Later on, tragically, he got bumped in with 1 length left to reach the wire.
Trainer J Wright’s hound was not able to manage the circumstances and finished his quest in 35.78 seconds.
Local Dee Jay, a three-year-old hound, who was ½ a length behind Droopys Luisao, chased the lure from trap 3.
The 7/1 favourite black dog, trained by K J Findlay, with an amazing pace, ralied across the dirt, but suddenly got bumped in quiet a few times during the race, with 1 length to go.
Finishing fourth in 35.82 seconds, the son of Hallucinate was followed by Emperor Leon, behind a distance of 2 lengths.
Starting his race from trap 2, the three-year-old black dog chased the lure on a bad pace. While railing through the hounds, he got bumped in by 1 length which made him finish fifth in 35.98 seconds.
Tragically, Hugo You Go, who was a neck behind Emperor Leon, was the last one to reach the wire.
Even though the black dog, wearing orange and black number 5, had a tremendous start, he got baulked which made the situation in over his head.
Trainer P J Simmond's two-year-old hound managed to enter the finals but unluckily finished sixth in 36.01 seconds.
Out of the total prize money of £12000, Droopys Hester won a purse £1000, along with Westmead Maldini who finished second, while the rest of the contenders were given £250 each.
