Droopys Oscar lights up Caffreys Puppy Classic

Droopys Oscar bounced back to form last night, producing an impressive run in the heats of the Category One Caffreys Puppy Classic at Nottingham.

Seamus Cahill’s hound was heavily fancied in the williamhill.com Puppy Derby at Wimbledon last month before succumbing to some bad luck in running in the semi-finals. But his class shone through over the 500m trip last night as he showed fantastic early dash to beat Blonde Fletch, who was closing in with every stride, by three lengths.

Oscar’s dazzling time of 30.00secs was repeated in the heat four by Tudor Prince, who justified odds on favouritism by cruising to an early lead and making all in eye-catching style.

The hard luck story of the evening went to the unlucky Skywalkershearer in the opening heat, who once again found trouble at the first bend. His Wimbledon campaign was littered with messy races, but he always seemed to sprout wings turning for home and run on impressively, and the same was seen last night.
Going off a well backed favourite he got involved with some intense scrimmaging at the first bend which gave the eventual winner Droopys Gianni a seven length lead down the back straight, but somehow Skywalkershearer made up the ground to get within a neck of the winner but the line came too soon. One for the notebook, no doubt.

The fifth eliminator was taken by Slick Symphony who outstayed Firecracker Jack to win in 30.13sec. The last of the heats fell to Alex Grewcock's Slick Sorento (9-2) who made all in 30.33sec.
