Drop in class could favour Groupie Doll in the Inside Information at Gulfstream Park
The 4-year-old Brant Laue owned and William Bradley trained filly, Groupie Doll, is set to make her third start of the new campaign in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream Park over a distance of seven furlongs on 17 March, 2012, going against
10, 4-year-old and above fillies.
Though, Musical Romance will head the Inside Information field, sent as the favourite to win the race with the odds of 6 to 1, as the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner will try to bounce back from the fourth place defeat in the Sunshine
Millions Filly-Mare Sprint at about six furlongs at Gulfstream Park, but Groupie Doll might bag this one for various reasons.
The daughter of Bowman’s Band, Groupie Doll will experience a massive drop in class, which could work in her favour, and on top of that how she performed in her last race, the Grade 3 Sabin Stakes where she finished third, but there is no shame in finishing
third when Royal Delta and Awesome Maria took the top two places.
A brilliant mare Awesome Maria is, even a fair match of Havre de Grace, and she was good on that day, but Groupie Doll kept her honest throughout, as Royal Delta would know about that more than anyone else.
In her first race of the season, an allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream Park, Groupie Doll gave Boys at Toscanova a hard time, and that is doing something, considering how good the male is.
Out of mare Deputy Doll by Silver Deputy, Groupie Doll will be cut back in distance as well, as she will compete on seven furlongs in the Inside Information, which could also help her go fast in the opening stages and rule out any late challenges.
She has improved speed this year, and it is worth knowing that the filly, which finished second more than first in her career, came way back to post a runner up finish in all those races. She will go into the race with the odds of 6 to 1, breaking from post
number 9 under jockey Rajiv Maragh.
Her Smile will be sent at 3 to 1, and will break from post number 11, as Hot Summer will be under L. Saez for trainer David Fawkes with the odds of 12 to 1.
Todd Pletcher trained R Holiday Mood could turn out to be the upset filly, she has been awarded the odds of 5 to 1, with the post position of 6, coupled with John Velazquez.
