  1. Just keep trying! You are not likely to get ANYWHERE in life if you don't have your high school diploma! Look into your school to see if they can offer you correspondence courses. or maybe Home schooling?

  2. High school can be a great learning experience, no one really wants to go, I would give it a year at least. Take your Freshman year feel out the high school and mature a little ( you will)  The binge drinking is something you will have to deal with in school or not. Hopefully you do get it under control. After your freshman year, take a moment to reflect on how high school has effected you for better or worse, then decide if its for you. If you do decide to quit, make sure you get your GED, many states have regulations on how old you have to be, and how much school you have to have before you can even take that, and if your under 18, the parent has to give consent many times. If high school isn't for you look into something called Job corps. Ive had a few friends who joined up with it.

  3. I'm not usually a proponent of dropping out of school, but I am if you think it's going to make your life worse in the long run, especially with drugs. But at least give your high school a couple of months. You never know - it could surprise you.

I had a friend in high school who dropped out and got his GED, and I do believe it was the right decision for him. I would only do it if you think you would be self-motivated enough to get your GED, because the future without a high school diploma or GED is pretty grim.

I would make a plan first. What job could you get? Could you get some sort of apprenticeship with a photographer? Maybe doing weddings or school photos? Definitely don't do it if it just means you're going to sit around and do nothing.

  4. You know, props to you. You have already done a few things to get you in the right direction - you addmitted you made some "crappy"  decisions, you admit you are a binge drinker, and you know going in to your high school that you will be tempted by drugs. You are already a step ahead of many others starting high school. You actually know what may be coming your way - all you have to do is say no and still "save face".

Don't quit. The GED is actually a lot harder than people think it is. If you don't believe me, buy a practice workbook at any bookstore, or go on-line and take a practice test. See how much studying you will need to pass it.

Try to get involved in the high school. One thing about starting a new school - no one really knows you, especially the teachers. Start off on the right foot and try to make the right choices.

What kind of photographer do you want to be? If you would like to work for a newspaper, for example, talk to your little hometown paper and  see if you could volunteer there.  Talk to some of the photographers and ask them what you need to do to get where they are.  Even if having a high school diploma isn't neccessary, think like your potential boss would think:  imagine 2 people of the same age and experience applying for a job - the only difference is 1 has a diploma and 1 does not. Who would you choose? Sometimes having a goal may seem to make going to  high school not too bad...

I actually had a friend who was so scared to get back into drugs after being clean for a year she paid the courts to give her mandatory drug testing even though she had fullfilled her probation.... knowing she would get into legal trouble was the only thing that kept her clean... sometimes you have to go to unique and strange places to stay out of trouble...

    Good luck..

  5. How do you plan on dropping out freshman year? In order to get into a decent college, you have to go to high school. Its hard enough getting into a good college with average grades, let alone none at all. Try home schooling.

  6. if you want to take pictures or anything else, you need to stay in school. nothing good comes easy. if you quit and go for your GED.,you will still need schooling. so quit high school and go to college. do you think that is easer? if you quit school and try to get a job just with your GED you will get nowhere.  any employer that looks at your application will say to themselves that you could not finish school. why should they trust you to finish anything. as far as the school goes, it is up to you to go after what YOU want.  try another school,  if not,  work for what you want.  only YOU can allow the drugies to lead you. it is your choise.  you will need to make alot of choices in life and this is just the begining. IT IS TIME TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES FOR YOUR FUTUER AND WHOEVER YOU CHOICE TO SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH. decide what you want. if you s***w up it your falt. think...... stay in school.  move in with an aunt or uncle,  grandparents, etc.. if you want it grab it.

  7. Try, try to go to another high school!! If you explain your situation to them, it shouldn't be that hard!! It is really, vitally important that you continue your education and try to become a photographer. If you don't continue high school, that dream will pretty much be shot. Just try and switch schools, then fight your way through it!!!
