Question:

Dropped a propane tank will it still work?

I dropped an empty propane tank ( for forklifts) off my truck and landed on the road. There are a few scratches but no noticable hole for a leak. Is it safe to use and refill?

  1. It would be wise to send it to be pressure tested or just replace it.  A pressure tank can leak if dropped......If an ignition source is available, the propane can ignite.

If it is a double wall tank, unlike a bbq tank, then you SHOULD be ok.........I would still get it tested, especially if it is to be used indoors......an indoor propane fire is NOT fun

  2. Yeah its still safe! I had on on my camper and my husband backed into it and it dented and we used it still!

  3. If it didn't explode, I'd say it's fine to use.

  4. Don't reuse the tank untill you get it hydrostaticly tested, if you don't you won't know if it has any minute hairline fractures in the metal that could leak out propane when you get it refilled and possible cause an explosion.

  5. I think I would remove the valve and rig a tee fitting to my compressor and do a pressure check on it. If it holds air under pressure, it is probably OK. They're pretty sturdy, but they can get cracked. It would only take a few minutes to check it out, why not ?

  6. I would get it checked by a professional first. It doesnt sound like a big deal but if you fill it and you use it and it does have a crack it could leak out and explode... Yikes!

  7. for safety i suggest that you don't use it because its very dangerous and there could be holes near or on the scratches that you can't see and maybe could cause dangerous accidents.

  8. YES IM SURE YOU CAN STILL USE IT
