Okay, I kinda dropped my phone in the toilet while it was flushing and it was in there for 30 seconds tops, now, immediately after I took the battery out and wiped off the water i could see and then let it air out, and I had it in the sunniest part of my house that i can think of, it's been out there for 2 hours, but my question is, does anyone think it'll work again? It's the LG Chocolate; i'm just really upset and I feel like a total idiot.

  1. 50/50 if you took the battery out

  2. The exact problem happened to my wife's Nokia about 2 weeks ago.

I removed the battery, and put the phone under a 100 watt bulb in a clamp-light (about 12" above it).   I put a small fan nearby to circulate air.    After about 24 hours of that, I put the battery back in and all but one button and the microphone worked.

I had to buy some "star" screwdriver bits to open the phone.  There I found the "bad" switch still had moisture in it, so I dried the phone out some more in its disassembled condition.    When I reassembed it, the switch worked, but the microphone was still very weak.

    I ordered a new microphone ($16 + tax + shipping = $25), and I will install that tonight - I'm hoping that fixes it.

Oh yeah, I'm currently trying to dry out the battery, as it worked fine for several days, but now it's not holding a charge.

P.S.  It is okay to heat the phone up, just keep it under about 130 degrees F.   If you can hold it in your hand without discomfort, that's okay - any hotter and you should move the light or use a less powerful bulb.    Putting it out in the Sun is fine - most phones are designed to be able to survive sitting in the Sun in a hand-free bracket inside a closed vehicle.

  3. You got a 50/50 chance.

  4. Get it OUT of the sun, and in front of a fan.  You don't need heat, you need air circulation.  Let it dry for 48 - 72 hours.  Open all the compartments, take out the battery, SIM, and any memory cards you can.  DON'T subject it to extreme heat or cold in any form - they just cause expansion/corrosion/condensation - BAD idea.
