Dropping Younis Khan is an unintelligent decision, says Basit Ali – Cricket News Update
Basit Ali, the former Test cricketer, has slammed the national selection committee for dropping Younis Khan for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and feels that the experienced player could have been handy against one of the
toughest opponents in world cricket.
The selection committee, headed by the former left-arm spinner, Iqbal Qasim, announced a 16-man squad for a three-match series against the Kangaroos, which starts on August 28 at Sharjah.
There are a number of surprises in the squad, with senior players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 excluded after a run of poor performances in the previous tour of Sri Lanka.
Some of the players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anwar-Ali-c45231 has been included in the ODI side for the first time.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Basit expressed that Younis was unlucky not to have scored more runs in Sri Lanka and wanted the selectors to give him more opportunities because he has been a great servant of the Green Shirts over the years.
"In my view, it is an unintelligent decision as you’ve dropped your key player just because of his recent performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758," the former cricketer said.
"The sad part is that the chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980 is himself a former cricketer and he has seen that Younis Khan was given out wrongly four times in the series. Yet, Younis has been dropped.”
In 79 Tests, 245 ODIs and 25 T20 Internationals, the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain has scored more than 13 thousand runs, with a superb average of 51.69 runs per innings in Test cricket. His average in ODIs however, is not too impressive (32.18).
Basit is optimistic that Younis will return to the ODI side in the coming months because he has maintained high fitness standards over the years.
"Younis Khan is a very big-hearted man, a true patriot. Considering the kind of guy he is, he will most definitely make a comeback. Although he’s 34 years old, he is the fittest player in the team alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972," he added.
