Drovers Eclipse likely to take the top spot in the March Dash
Drovers Eclipse is likely to prevail in the 277 metres March Dash at Henlow in England on Thursday, March 8, 2012. The winning greyhound of the Grade OR event will be awarded with cash prize of £150.
The flat race is scheduled to start at 19:54 GMT and six quality runners are lined up for it. Their names are: Drovers Eclipse, Blackrose Slick, High Noon, Alecs Blue, Lavey Creek and Barley Lineker.
The bookmakers believe that Drovers Eclipse will dominate the proceedings today, as he has been doing a superb job at Henlow in recent times. This is why he has been given the best odds and the punters will be eying to win some easy money, by placing their bets on the favourite hound.
M. Westwood’s trainee has got plenty of experience of conditions at Henlow, which will work in his favour. He has got a couple of victories in his previous five outings, which means that he is in good form and has the momentum to deliver a strong result again.
However, Drovers Eclipse was unable to deliver a strong result in his previous outing at Henlow in this class. He got off to a bad start and got crowded early as well, which cost him a lot of time. He failed to recover, as the race distance was just 277 metres, and managed to cross the finish line in fifth place.
The brindle dog has the ability to turn things around quickly, but he will need a solid start today. He is the son of Hondo Black out of Ashcarne Flojo and was born in October 2007.
On the other hand, the bookmakers have also given decent odds to Blackrose Slick, who won his previous race at Henlow. However, he might have to work hard in this grade, as there are some quality runners participating in the event.
E. Cantillon’s trained hound is the son of Ballymac Maeve out of Riverside Bella and was born in April 2009.
Although no other hound seems to be in a position to win the race today, High Noon might pull of a surprise, as he is quite a capable runner. He is out of touch though, and might find things difficult.
Alecs Blue, Lavey Creek and Barley Lineker are the least favourites to make an impression today. However, a solid start might see any one of them on top of the table, as this is a short distance race.
