Question:

Drowning in dreams? And unable to run in them?

When I was younger I had a re-occuring dream where I would be swimming in a pool, go underwater and then be stuck underneath (as if a layer of glass had formed on the surface) I'd panic and start drowning, and wake up as soon as I was about to pass out in my dream.

I recently had a dream in which I got into a VERY deep pool and just forgot how to swim. I could feel myself drowning (god I hate dreams!) and woke up.

Also, I often can't move properly in my dreams. I'll try and run and not be able to move fast enough or my legs become really heavy. I sometimes can't scream or speak in my dreams, and wake up trying to say something.

I know that my dreams get a lot more messed up when I'm stressed, but can anyone shed any light on these re occuring drowning/inability to run or speak?

Thanks!

  1. drowning dreams are often warnings that you are being overwhelmed in your life.  The red queen said to Alice, "You have to run as fast as you can just to stay in place".  When we feel over whelmed by life we are more likely to dream of drowning in water. (Life)

  2. it really could be the stress, and could also be a sleep disorder.

it wouldn't hurt to get checked out.

the stress could be causing the feeling of not being able to move.

drowning can also represent being overcome, or depression.

find out if it's depression; see a doctor if you can.

    God bless.

  3. maybe your stressed out about swimming or maybe your rememberin a bad experience with deep pools ?

  4. Dream therapists will tell you that this dream means that you feel like you are losing or lacking control in your life

this dream is usually described by people who are into a situation that is over their head

  5. When you dream that you are trying to run but can't it means that you have a low self image or low self esteem. You are afraid that you don't measure up to others. The same with not being able to speak, you are afraid that you will sound stupid or that no one will feel that you have anything important to say.

To dream that you are drowning means that you are thinking about your emotions too much. You are worrying too much about what other people think, how they feel about you, whether they like you, etc.

Drowning, not being able to run or speak are all connected to how you feel about yourself. These dreams are pretty common in teenagers because of all of the pressure you guys are under to be popular. I wish I could convince you that most of the other teenagers feel the same way, they just cover it up very well.

My advice is to calm down a little and don't worry so much about what other people will think. It will make you a lot less stressed and you'll have more fun in life. It may be hard to believe now, but all of this won't matter so much in a few years. These are actually the hardest years of your life so take some pressure off of yourself and act the way that pleases you.

    Good luck and relax!
