Question:

Drs. & Nurses..Fasting Bloodwork..?

When a doctor has you fast for bloodwork... Do they check your thyroid in that blood work .. everytime im due for a physical my Dr. does fasting bloodwork ... will she be able to tell by that if my thyroid is ok .. or should i ask for a differnt test?... Please Help...

  1. The only thing you know for sure from the term "fasting blood work" is that what they are looking at can be affected by food intake.  Some possibilities are cholesterol levels, thyroid tests, liver function, and diabetes.

    If you believe that you need your thyroid tested and aren't sure if they're planning on testing it, you need to talk to the Doctors office that ordered the test before you go in, they may not have the correct test vials ready if you don't.


  2. yes when they do blood work they do check your thyroid, ive had mine checked once or twice before.  

  3. Before your bloodwork tell your doctor about your thyroid concerns so that the test can be added.  It will require one additional tube of blood.
