Drug use, overdoses, hospitals -- do they have to be charged?

i've already posted this one about, but i'm in search for some serious informative answers.

this for an essay at school.

if smoeone is taken to the hospital to get their stomach pumped etc for drug use, are they reported to the police?

Do they go to jail or get fined?

what happens?

help please?

keep in mind, this is a question about a law in australia...

  1. They are not reported.

    They do not go to jail.

    They do not get fined.

    They get referred to a psychiatrist and will have psychiatric evaluation (s) to see what kind of help they might need, and if they will be able to look after themselves ok if they get out of hospital.

    This is, mind you, if they survive.

    Some people have serious side effects (liver damage) of drug use, and do ultimately need a liver transplant. If they do not get a donor, they will die.

    My feeling of using hospital services for something you inflict on yourself is pure selfish c**p. Sorry mate, just my opinion. But there you are. If you end up in hospital, you will be assisted to live. In the hope you learn something for when you get out in one piece.


  2. I don't think they can release ANY medical information without your permission. If you say "Please tell the Cops" and sign a release, sure. Otherwise the information is privileged.
