Drumena Roller rolls to close finish in A8 race at Sunderland
Greyhound racing is a sport that is able to do the most with the least. Large amounts of action and excitement are pack into races that are generally over in 35 seconds or less. It keeps
the racing fans interested, and it also keeps them coming back for more every time.
The racing fans in attendance at Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium were left on the edges of their seats with some very close finishes in the A8 race that began the day. The top three
spots were all claimed with a shoulder’s length separating each position.
Drumena Roller (5-1) was the winner of this race, leading near the line to finish in 28.69 seconds. Second-place finisher Zigzag Flopsy, the 9-4 favourite, matched Drumena Roller’s time
of 28.69, while Utopia Ruby clocked in with a time of 28.70 to place third.
Affirmation (6-1) held an early pace from trap six, but eventually lost a lot of ground as he finished 5¾ lengths out of the top three in 29.16 to take fourth place. Finishing a ½ length
behind him was Macys Magic (3-1), who placed fifth in 29.20. Nowisthetime, the 8-1 long shot, couldn’t find the right time to move ahead of the pack, and eventually crowded first to place last in 29.50. She was 3¾ lengths behind fifth place.
Next up on the card was another A8 race that saw Mays Texan (5-2) take a commanding lead en route to a great finish of 28.41. She always led, and nothing impeded her progress. Despite
having every chance to take the lead, Jasons Red finished the race in 28.71. The 8-1 long shot surprised many with her second place finish, which was 3¾ lengths behind the winner. Third-place finisher Brimardon Sarah (6-1) moved slowly away from the pack to
finish 2 ½ lengths behind Jasons Red in 28.91.
Noelles Lo, the 2-1 favourite, bumped third en route to a fourth-place finish. She missed out on a top-three finish by 1¼ lengths. Finishing a head’s length behind her was Bluestwinkletoes
(4-1), who had a clear run. She finished the race in 29.02. Shes A Livewire (4-1) failed to finish the race after being knocked over at third, and may have sustained an injury in the process. She may be sidelined for a while in order to recover from the injury.
