I have just taken my grade one drums and got 98%, but now I'm not improving much - I practice everyday, but I still cannot grasp the fill timing, is there any trick to get better at this?

  1. Listen to a lot of rock music. It will help.

  2. 1. Try using a Metronome when doing your practice routines

    2. You can also use your Hi- Hats as a Metronome too. Like John Bonham did all the time. You could always hear it in the background when he played his drum fills and drum solos. This will help you with your timing for sure.

  3. You are probably talking about drumset.

Fills are hard to do....because you do the basic groove and then the fill rhythm is much more syncopated and varied.

For now, think of doing fills on the 4th measure of a 4\4 groove pattern. Use the cymbal crash on the 5th measure of a 4/4 pattern....but not always.
