Drumshambo having big chance under 7lb penalty in Castleford Handicap Chase at Wetherby
Although Drumshambo is facing far stronger opposition than last time, it is hard to overlook his prospects in the Castleford Handicap Chase at Wetherby on Thursday, December 27th.
Despite a 7lb rise, the 6-year-old makes plenty of appeal following his convincing victory. The Venetia Williams-trained is in great rhythm at the moment, and could defy the penalty in great style.
The Grouse Partnership-owned has bagged two wins so far this month. After proving too good for the rivals at Hereford, the bay gelding continued the great job, and took another marvellous win a few days ago. The spectators at Ludlow saw him taking the prize
easily in the Tanners Champagne Handicap Chase.
In the hands of Aidan Coleman, he justified his highest price of 11 to 10, and bagged the first prize comfortably by five lengths. He was always prominent, and led approaching the final stages. The Airlie Stud-bred stayed on well, and remained unchallenged
until the wire.
Winning three of the previous four races shows how good rhythm he is in. The son of Dynaformer is likely to continue his classy work, and add another win to his tally.
Last year’s winner, Charingworth, is making the second best appeal. It will be very hard for the Ferdy Murphy-trained to display an equally impressive show, because he is 8lb higher this time around.
Dontpaytheferryman is another big player. On a good mark, the 7-year-old is in good rhythm following an improved act last time. After suffering a shameful loss last month, the Brian Ellison-trained raised his game, and shared the podium here last time.
Lease Lend has proved vulnerable off this mark since his return from absence. So, one should look elsewhere for the victor. Character Actor holds good Irish form but, after being soundly beaten yesterday, it looks a stiff task for him.
The going is heavy for the class-2 meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 14:20 GMT. The successful horse will get a handy prize of £10,397.
Charingworth and Dontpaytheferryman, both have major roles to play, but the vote goes to Drumshambo, who is expected to continue his progressive journey. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
