Question:

Drunk Driving Laws in Ireland?

While I'm not looking for the green light to get loaded then jump behind the wheel, I'm looking for info about severity of enforcement. I'm just trying to figure out, if I have a couple of pints in a local pub, should I plan on walking home? Are the laws in Ireland as strict/severe as in the USA?

  1. irish laws are extremely strict on drink driving charges

if your caught with any more than one pint on you you are

over the legal limit , this usually carries

loss of driving licence for 2 years

imprisonment for 3 months (this is very rare you really need to be pissed to get this)

    loss of driving licence permanantly

fines of up to 10000 euro (max) usually around 3 to 4 thousand

so basics are dont drink and drive here its not worth it , there are plenty of taxis around

  2. I don't know about Ireland,

    But I do know ,

Australia is way more lenient on drinking and driving ,

    then the states are.

Regardless , if you feel tipsy,

    Don't drive  ~!

for  your safety as well as everyone else on the road, and kids out walking and playing ~!

  3. Well.. they are strict but NOT half as strict as in the U.S.  Keep in mind that most of the laws NOW in the U.S. are made up by police and their sole goal is go milk the public out of as much money as they can.. So every so often, the police knock the alcohol content to be impared DOWN just so eventually... having ONE beer, the police can pick you up and milk money from you for their corruption.. This is not so in Ireland... So far, they (the police) have not followed the same corrupt practices as in the U.S./
