Dry cleaners policy?

I took a dress to a dry cleaners on 08/07/08, and just remembered (having been on holiday for a long period). I called today and they cannot find it. It is a dress worth in excess of £100. What should I do?

i work in a dry cleaners and we keep garments for a max of six months if you still have your ticket my advice is to go back and ask what they are going to do about it if however you don't have your ticket proving you left it and when then you have no chance i am afraid

Do you mean August 7 or July 8th?  If it is July 8th then you are out of luck as most dry cleaners have a policy where they are not responsible for items left over a certain # of days.  Go there in person and ask them to look again.  If it was just there since the beginning of August I would think they are responsible for the lost item.
