Question:

Dry lips all year round for 5 years... any long lasting solution?

I've had Dry Lips for about 4-5 years... I remember getting it in the final years of school. They become slightly dry but you can notice it an it's annoying. After a while they get worse. They're not bad and they don't cause a ring round my mouth or anything but they do get annoying an the discontinued use of a lip balm would be nice.

I smoke and I am diabetic but I have smoked for about 6-7 years and not had the problem before hand. I have a varied diet do some exercise I am not over weight and my Diabetes control is fairly good.

I have used many lip balms and none have cured the problem, at the moment I use Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Balm to moisten them. They are not painful and are not sore but they get dry and I have to apply it every few hours or after I wash otherwise it dries out; then after a few hours starts to crack and become sore.

Thanks for any help.

Peace

  1. Drink more water, and stop smoking!

  2. Check with your MD - but you should take a multivitamin + iron.

Drink a lot of water - (at least the 8 glasses)

Try using pure vitamin e on the lips break open a gel (pill)

and apply most especially at bed time.

I have heard carmex and berts bee are wonderful lip balms.

Don't l**k your lips if you can help it.

Avoid all products like Vaseline (petroleum based) it isn't helpful and dries you out more instead of helps.

  3. Dehydration is the # 1 cause of dry lips.  Load up on the water.  It could be an allergy or a deficiency of Vitamin A ( carrots, tomatoes), or Vitamin B2 (riboflavin). You are diabetic so I assume you are taking Insulin. Medications can also cause dry lips. Here are some things you can try at home.

Rub a slice of cucumber around your lips. (Hydrates lips)

If you have one, sleep with a humidifier to keep your lips moist.

Sleep with Aloe Vera gel on your lips.

Pour a drop of honey on your lips and let it dry. After a few seconds, apply Vaseline over the honey and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with warm water.  This works real good.

Butter or shortening works well too.  Try sleeping with it.
