Question:

Dry skin on an infant, normal or not?

My daughter, Zoey, who is now 5.5 months old, has always seemed to have this chronic dry skin issue (ever since just a few weeks old), but ONLY on her forehead and temples occasionally. It comes and goes, and seems to be worse after bathes. Lotion helps, but I would have to apply several times a day. At first, I assumed it was just dry skin, but it's never officially gone away. I have dry skin issues when the seasons change (summer to winter, winter to summer), is this just a possible genetic hang up? Is this just sensitive baby skin, or a more serious condition, like eczema? The rest of her skin is amazingly perfect.

  1. It could be eczema. I've had it all my life and there would only be certain "hot spots" like certain areas on my hand or behind my knees while the rest of my skin would be perfectly fine. A dermatologist can diagnose the issue and help relieve at least some of it.

  2. its normal ....

but you might be putting her in to much water .....

don't wash her in the tub as mush and then see if anything changes

  3. porbably not. but once a day use baby oil and rub it all over her body.

if its eczema change your soap to a goat milk based one.

  4. I think you're right on your guess of eczema.

My daughter gets it mainly behind her ears now, but when she was a couple months old she'd get it between her eyes and on her forehead. The only thing that really worked for us was Aveeno lotion. We would make sure to scrub the eczema gently in the tub and then apply lots of lotion.

    Good luck!

  5. my daughter has quite dry skin on her back, ive said to the health visitor and the dr many times as i was concerned about excema. but they just keep saying just moisturise it.

talk to her dr and see what they think

  6. My son get the same type of thing on his elbows at times which I believe is eczema.  I apply a cream with  neem oil in it and it goes away rather quickly.  Actually come to think of it he hasn't had it for awhile now probably well over a year.

Here is a link to what I use.
