Question:

Dry socket??

I had my wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday of this week. Now it is Thursday, and this morning I woke up laying weird on my right side with my right side of my face smushed on the bed and drool coming out..

I woke up and raised up and noticed the right side of my mouth where the teeth had been pulled (mostly the bottom one) was throbbing really bad..I took some pain medication and it went away eventually..

It still keeps throbbing some now, and kind of a dull achey pain..could this be dry socket? I am worried to death..I haven't drank through a straw, but bc my mouth is so stiff I've had to kind of do little sucking/pressure motions in my mouth to get food and spit to go down my throat.

Is this normal you think, maybe where I laid on it weird, or perhaps beginning of dry socket??

  1. Hey, i think i have the same problem. i got 2 wisdom teeth pulled out, but i also got a filling all on the same side. This is my 3rd day, and i have read that the pain is supposed to be subsiding by now. Unfortunately, it still hurts, but I can't tell if this is normal....or dry socket. I haven't drunk through a straw, and I'm in the same predicament as you because I also performed a little sucking motions with my cheeks in order to get food out.

Anyways, I researched the symptoms of dry socket online. Many dentists recommend clove oil..if u DO have dry socket. However, just to make sure, i ordered some from my pharmacy and i'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow.

I would recommend u use it. it's about $5-$6 a bottle...and...prevention is better than cure.

When/if u decide to get the clove oil, rinse your mouth with salt water to wash out all the food and other stuff that can irritate your gums. Then you can either pour the clove oil (two drops only) into the hole, or soak the oil in gauze. Personally, I think the gauze is better because appearantly the oil is strong, and i read somewhere that some people have burned their lips due to the spiciness.  So, after you soak the gauze, place the gauze in your mouth and bite down on it the same way you did when the dentist placed it into your mouth to stop the bleeding. I also read that the pain goes away instantly, or in some cases less than 30 mins.

If you don't wanna go that route, you can also call ur dentist and they can take a look at it, the clove oil is just a cheap home remedy that plenty people says works immediately!

    Good Luck
