Question:

Dry throat?

Whenever i run a race, my throat becomes very dry and i desperately need water. This happens more when i do a long distance event which is faster, than going slower.

By the way, most of the time i am very well hydrated because of what colour my urine is and also how much i have consumed.

Please help because sometimes it effects where i come.

  1. try to breath in through your nose

i get the same thing!!! lol its that simple!

  2. It is not enough to advise you to breathe through your nose.

What you need to be aware of is that you are probably "gulping" air rapidly which not only creates dryness but sends a message to your body that you are struggling more than you actually are. As such your body will tend to tighten up and your breathing will become less efficient.

Breathe should be as deep as is necessary but no deeper.

Try concentrating on your breathe during track workouts and tempo runs. Relax....breathe gently...do not force the air in and out of your body. You will soon notice that this dryness (caused by the  over breathing) and overall skeletal muscle tightness will lessen.
