I have my a fitness exam for police academy this upcoming saturday and and one of the things that sets me back the most is when my throat becomes really dry and I start to dry heeve. We are not allowed to stop for liquids during the test, is there anything out there that I can suck on that might help? I remember they used to sell like a little candy called aqua drops or something like that, that were used for rehydration but I think they discontinued them. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  1. Something I do in races is just keep a small piece of gum in your mouth when you run.  It keeps your mouth salivating and prevents your mouth from drying out.  I used to have the same problem and my XC coach suggested this and it really helped!!  Also when your running don't chew the gum a lot just enough to keep your mouth moist.  Hope this helps!!

  2. Make sure you are well hydrated ahead of time.

Cola is not sufficient. There is no substitute for WATER.

  3. I concur with the previous respondent.

Being a runner myself, I would suggest that your overall and daily water intake is lacking & being into running, training you will need more.  Not just a jug before workout as it will likely give you 'stitches' during the run.  Start first thing right now & keep re-hydrating every hour or so with a cup -- my calculated need for intake is 12 cups a day.  I'll guess you're up in that range.

Basically, there isn't an honest quick fix; this will take daily effort to keep your body hydrated and that scratch away:)

    Take care!
