electric frigidaire, i just replaced the felt and glides, went to dry my clothes and no heat, after trying to diagnose this problem i noticed the heating element come on, glow bright red then shut off. getting so hot i couldnt even touch the area around it. it only happened when the dryer was not running. timer was on but not running. this happened prolly 4 times, within half an hour . it seemed maybe after i messed with the safety door switch thing but im not so sure. anyways any suggestions what the heck is wrong here? i am stumped and i no way can afford even a used dryer at this point! btw the heat and everything worked just fine before replacing the felt, just got tired of it snagging and ruining my clothes,

  1. mam-your dryer has a bad thermostat...when it heats up-it just keeps on heating, because the thermostat is not working  to

shut it off after it reaches the temperature.

An a ppliance repair shop would tell you how to replace it....

Then u decide if u want to do that or not.....

  2. You may have not put it all back together the right way, its a pain I know but try going back over everything you did and see if the problem is corrected.

Sorry I can't be any more helpful

  3. the element broke when you were fixing the dryer and is now shorting to ground. you will have to replace the element. a restring kit runs about 40 dollars.

  4. The coils should not glow that bright.  They are overheating and the safety thermostat is shutting them off.

First thing to check is the air flow coming from the duct outlet.  It should be pretty strong and warm.  If it's strong and cool then the pathway is not routing the air through the coils.   If it's weak then you have a blockage.

The coils need the airflow to dry the clothes and keep the coils from burning up.  Recheck all the internal pathways to be sure everything is connected properly and, of course, check the lint filter and the entire run of ductwork.

  5. since everything worked fine before you  messed with it  I would look around real good to make sure you didn't accidentally unhook some wire etc, if it's getting that hot in 20 sec there is a danger of fire.good luck,
