I had baby Tadhg last wednesday and my b*****s are so sore.

Its driving me crazy.

It keeps me awake.

Its so sore I barely even have any pain in my section cut because I'm so distracted.

Its making it hard ot hold the baby too.

I don't have mastitis or anything.

I didn't think it would be this sore.

I'm putting cabbage leaves etc on them but its not helping.

How long did it take for your breast milk to dry up?

What did you do to cope with the pain?

  1. You eat food full of nutrients and more soup.

  2. Keep them dry...leave them out as long as poss! It will get better!

I see you are referring to erythromycin...this drug IS suitable fort breast feeding mothers: http://www2.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/sh...

  3. I recently had my 3rd child and it's been very painful waiting for the milk to dry up after all 3 of them, so bad that i couldn't lie down because the pressure was so intense the pain made me cry. What I can say is that it should fade after a few days but it's important not to express any milk as this will only make the process take longer. I wore the tightest bra that i could, with underwires to nsure good support and i took regular high dose pain killers to combat the pain, as you aren't breast feeding you'll be able to do the same. Within about 3 days of the intense pain starting it began to fade and was hardly there at all after a week, my b*****s soon started to go down in size again, my little one is now 5 weeks, i do still have a little milk being produced but it's not at all painful or uncomfortable and hasn't been now for ages.

  4. When I was trying to dry up, I had breastfed for 3 months already so it was a little harder.  What I did to help was wrap them in an Ace bandage and apply ice packs to them for 30 minutes every few hours.  I went from almost 20 oz of milk every few hours to 0 in less than 2 weeks.  To ease the pain, take some Advil if you can with the other medication you are already on.  Good Luck, and the pain will be gone soon :)

  5. my wife says if you get some siedlitz powders from the chemist this will dry them up, this was told to her by her health visitor many years ago, dont know about spelling or if you can still obtain this item

  6. Feed your baby to take away the pain of engorgement - don't worry, once you and baby settle into a feeding routine your b*****s will settle down and will only make enough to feed baby, so you won't get engorged anymore.  It does get better, I promise!

  7. go to your doctor and he will give you a percription for some medication that will dry up your milk
