Question:

Drywall question, can this be snapped or must I saw?

I have a piece of drywall that will have a cutout on the top side. it's in the middle of the top so there will be two pieces of drywall sticking up all the way, one on each side.

(this is harder to explain than I thought) for lack of words, it will look like the letter U, with a shallow valley part. so, to get the rectangular shape out of the top, can it be snapped (not sure how) or must I saw the two sides down, score across and snap?

and, is there a good wallboard saw someone could recommend? (or cheap but sufficient?)

thanks

  1. ok I have been drywalling for about 15 years and I can not understand whet u are doing so can't help u

  2. You know those fancy box cutter things just take one of those to it thats what some dry wallers use to do it, i should know ive been doing it for the last 7 years so yeah... fun job... not really

You can snap it after it is cut through if it the cutter does not go through all the way but do not just snap it because it will become very uneven after a while

  3. i think you can but a keyhole saw it is like a knife that has teeth for Sheetrock you should saw the first line down to the point where it meets with the second line then cut the second line with your utility knife then you can snap it repeat with the other side .

  4. It would be easiest to saw then score and snap. You won't be able to snap the sides without breaking the board. If you need a cleaner edge, you can score where you are going to saw before sawing.
