Question:

Drywall s***w came out

Hi, I have standard size fluorescent light fixture hanging from two brackets installed in drywall, one on each end. There is one s***w in the top and one in the bottom of each bracket. I used drywall screws , and they have worked for a long time, but when I was moving the fixture around to change a bulb and put a little extra weight on it, the entire upper s***w on one bracket pulled out of the wall, and now there's a large hole there. The fixture didn't fall, the other screws are fine, and it pushed back in, so I was wondering if there was a certain type of glue I could use to hold it i there and fix it quickly, any advice appreciated

  1. You need some type of drywall anchor to hold the fixture in place.  The s***w grips quite well but it doesn't take much to pull them loose.  Look in the hardware stores for hollow wall anchors and add them where the screws are going into the ceiling.

  2. I would put a molly in there and then put the s***w back in to make it more secure.

  3. Go to the home center or hardware store and ask for some nylon zip in anchors. They have a s***w thread on them and are about 1-1/4" long. You use a phillips type screwdriver bit to install them. No pre-drilling needed, just put anchor on the end of a phillips bit tip (use cordless drill with phillips bit tip in it. Start the sharp point of the anchor right on the hole where the loose s***w was, Run anchor right into the drywall until it gets flush with drywall. Now put bracket over it and install the s***w that comes with the anchor.

Note: I would do this to all the screws, except any that happened to hit a wall stud or ceiling joist.

They hold really well and are quick to install.
