Question:

Drywall tape has bubbles under it, any fixes?

Okay, I will admit I am a weekend handyman. I am trying to redrywall a section of my kitchen. Taping and mudding is an art lost on me, but I went ahead thinking I could get it. I have some sections of tape where the tape has bubbled up. If I mud over it, I know the bubbles will be visible. Any suggestions?

  1. I agree with cutting them out with a razor. If they are small bubbles then there's no need to tape again. Just Spackle the area cut out. If it's already finish with texture and it's a large area, you would want to cut out the bubble and then use some self adhesive mesh drywall tape and cover with some drywall mud. Wait for it to dry and sand. Then you can buy a can of premixed spray on texture. Let it dry and paint.

  2. Cut the bubbles out with a utility knife.  I usually patch with easy sand 20.  45 or 90 would work better for you.  Regular mud will also work it just shrinks more and will take a few coats of mud to fill.  If they are less than 2 - 3 inches long just fill with mud.  Longer than that you will need to retape to prevent cracking.  Mesh tape also works well for those small patch jobs.  Good luck

  3. slit em open with a razor blade then mud em again.  Or if it's fresh, rip it off and try again

  4. pop them with a pin and squeeze them out......ok so ive never done drywall before so this is just a complete guess.....good luck,

  5. If it's still fresh slit the tape bubbles with a razor blade and put more mud over  If that doesnt work use a razor blade to cut the bubbled sections out and patch with new tape. The bubbles won't just look ugly they will peel.

My brothers is a profressional drywaller, just asked him about this for you,
