Du Pengyu blunders in quarter-final round – Indonesia Open 2013
It was a woeful end of Djarum Indonesia Open for the Chinese campaigner Du Pengyu as he lost a lower ranked shuttler Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka and bid adieu in the quarter-finals on Friday, June 14, 2013.
This Men’s Singles tussle prolonged to 55 minutes in local badminton arena of Jakarta and both contenders kept the audience intact while compiling the final figures of 21-15, 15-21 and 21-9.
Things went out of hands of Du Pengyu straight away in the beginning and he could not establish a grip over the game afterwards. Though, he won the second set but this fluctuated performance was not enough to
avoid a disgraceful defeat.
On the other hand, the Indonesian challenger relished full benefits of his home ground and sealed a splendid victory.
Rumbaka, who was an underrated shuttler earlier in this event, served notice of his potential by prevailing in the very first game. He did not show any sign of bewilderment in front of a higher ranked opponent
and played flawless badminton.
He showed his intentions by ruling the court in preliminary stage and then made best out of this psychological edge to finish first half of the set with a favourable total. He maintained that upper hand in latter
part of the game and wrapped this segment of the showdown with 21-15 score on the board.
However, next set brought something to cheer for the Chinese badminton lovers as this time Du Pengyu employed all of his brilliance in the game and levelled the match score. He prevailed in the establishing rallies
and gained an immediate advantage on the points table.
He did not lose focus at any stage of the game and won this crucial set with an overwhelming figure of 21-15.
Third set became survival of the fittest war as both contenders were standing equal in match score position. The spectators were expecting lot of fireworks in the decider but it proved a dead contest.
The lower ranked but spirited Indonesian shuttler put a staggering knock and won this set with a convincing total of 21-9. With this splendid performance, Rumbaka sent Du Pengyu packing and earned a semi-final
spot.
