Du Pengyu outshines Ajay Jayaram in Men’s Singles first round at Yonex Denmark Open
China’s in-form player Du Pengyu had to put in extra effort in the Men’s Singles first round when he narrowly overpower his gritty opponent Ajay Jayaram of India at the Yonex Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2012 at Odense, Denmark, on Wednesday, October
17.
The seventh seeded Pengyu, who is ranked at number nine in Men’s Singles world placements, had to put in extra effort on court and managed to overpower Jayaram in a hard-fought competition by taking 59 minutes on court.
Pengyu has been putting up superb performance in major events for last one year and have earned a respectable position among the top shuttlers in the world.
While playing in the opening round clash in the Denmark Open against his lower ranked Indian opponent, Pengyu had to employ all of his reserves and managed to overpower his rival in three games with a decent score on the board.
In the opening set of this first round contest, Pengyu played quivering badminton as he could not live up to expectations and failed to manage even a small lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, Pengyu tried his best to dominate the pace of rallies by increasing his speed but could not stop the advancement of his rival and lost the set with a close 19-21 score on the board.
In the following set, Chinese shuttler started to change things around as he played attacking badminton from starting points and remained successful in maintaining pressure on his opponent until the end of first half.
After the break, Pengyu remained consistent in his positive and dominating play and eventually won the set with a huge 21-8 score on the board.
In the final game, Pengyu continued putting up staggering show by taking the bird early from all areas and kept his rival under pressure.
Chinese player easily bagged the final set of this match with a staggering 21-9 score on the board.
The lofty Pengyu emerged as the winner in this first round clash in hard-fought three sets with a decent difference of 19-21, 21-8 and 21-9.
