ease.
The first game of the match was quite easy for the Chinese, who sailed through the set without any resistance from his opponent. Pengyu's game showed a lot of improvement since the last few months and the shuttler proved he is ready to compete against top
athletes in the arena of Men’s Singles.
World number 12 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, Pengyu put up a good show in the first half of the game by playing aggressively. He was playing quite comfortably against Kazushi and managed a gap of 4 points at 11-7, till the interval.
After the break, he remained in a good position against Kazushi, who worked really hard to score points but failed to tackle the aggression of the Chinese, who clinched the set by a 21-14 margin, in 23 minutes.
The start of the second set was favourable for the Japanese as he took a reasonable lead of 4-1 in a flash. However, Pengyu remained close by playing at the same pace and reached 6-7 by hitting powerful and well placed smashes. Kazushi played better badminton
in this half of the second set as more of his strokes were directed towards the net to keep the Chinese in a defensive position.
At the interval, world number 27 Kazushi managed a one-point gap by reaching 11-10. At this stage of the match, Pengyu geared up his speed by playing to his full potential and scored four successive points to set up a three-point lead at 14-11.
Kazushi made a few unforced errors, which helped Pengyu to get into a strong position in the second set. Pengyu took advantage of the shaky play of the Japanese and finished up the game by winning it with a convincing difference of 21-13, in 22 minutes.
Pengyu emerged as the winner of this 45-minutes straight-set fight by a comfortable margin of 21-14 and 21-13.
