Du Pengyu stamps Shao Wen in opening round of 2013 Badminton Asia Championships
Men’s Singles campaigner Du Pengyu of China had a perfect start in Badminton Asia Championships as he cleared first round without any major trouble on April 17, 2013.
He was up against the Taipei shuttler Hsu Shao Wen and their meeting prolonged to 45 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 21-17 and 21-16.
Du Pengyu, who holds second spot in the tournament ranking, laid the foundation of his dominance in the first set and served the notice of his supremacy in second set of the match.
On the other hand, Shao Wen failed to pocket even a single match point and crashed out of this tournament in a woeful manner.
In the opening game, the Chinese shuttler unleashed a flurry of productive strokes and piled a decent total in no time. He capitalised this initial advantage and doubled the lead by prevailing in few back-to-back rallies.
This unbeatable strategy helped him to finish first half of the set with a favourable score position. After the mid-game break, Du Pengyu made some mistakes and these blunders allowed the opposing shuttler to proceed on the points table.
The Taipei campaigner did not squander this opportunity and stormed back into the contest. He bagged many valuable points in a row and levelled the score.
Both contenders stood toe-to-toe until the final stage and this cliff-hanging set ended when Du Pengyu registered a concluding total of 21-17.
Next game started with few consecutive gruelling rallies as both male shuttlers tried hard to gain an immediate advantage.
Shao Wen challenged his higher ranked rival in all departments of game and it was felt that he will avoid a straight-set defeat.
The game kept swinging between two contenders for some time but then Du Pengyu showed his real class and tipped the scale in his favour.
He played with an authoritative approach and piled an unassailable margin of 11. The latter part of game started with both Men’s Singles expert making every effort to oust each other.
They remained equal until third quarter of the set but then the Chinese player struck hard and locked the honour with 21-16 score.
Now, Du Pengyu will meet Suppanyu Avihingsanon in second round of  Badminton Asia Championships.
