Du Pengyu struggles in Men’s Singles first round of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
China’s young player Du Pengyu struggled hard in Men’s Singles first round as he defeated Indonesia’s Indra Bagus Ade Chandra with a close margin in Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Switzerland, on Tuesday, March 13.
The World Number 11 Pengyu, who is the eighth seed in the tournament, had to work really hard against the spirited Indonesian opponent and managed to win the battle in rubber games.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Indra Bagus showed his brilliance as he stretched his higher ranked rival to three games and lost this contest in 61 minutes.
In the first set, Pengyu received a shocking treatment from his lower ranked Indonesian rival who was in complete control of rallies.
Indra Bagus played flawless badminton in the opening half and did not let Pengyu to level the score and managed an impressive 11-5 lead until the one-minute break.
Pengyu accelerated his speed after the break and started to manipulate the loopholes of his rival. He managed to level the score by reaching 20-20 but failed to dictate rallies at this concluding phase.
The Chinese executed a few wrong shots in the ending points and lost the set with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the second set, both men played well in opening points and remained equal until 5-5 when Pengyu took over the control and started to dictate the pace. He managed an 11-8 lead until the interval.
After the break, the Indonesian could not continue his smashing run in the match as his Chinese challenger was in complete control. Pengyu remained on course and bagged the game with an impressive margin of 21-11.
In the deciding set, Pengyu surprised everyone with his aggressive approach. He took 11 consecutive points to set up an incredible 11-0 lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Indra Bagus tried to play positive badminton but failed to bridge the gap. On the other hand, Pengyu was focused in the game and took the set with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
Pengyu emerged as the winner of this first-round encounter with a 20-22, 21-11 and 21-11 score on the board.
