Du Pengyu tames Takuma Ueda to surge into pre quarter-finals of 2012 Li Ning China Masters
Men’s Singles expert Du Pengyu played with great precision and earned the right to be in the pre quarter-finals of Li Ning China Masters after beating Takuma Ueda on September 12, 2012.
This epic tussle, staged at local badminton arena of Changzhou in China, lasted for 79 minutes before ending with 21-14, 15-21 and 21-11.
The Chinese shuttler prevailed in the opening and ending segments of the showdown and setup his next clash with compatriot shuttler Wenlong Zhou.
Though, the opposing player strived hard to lock the honour but the luck was not on his side and he had to bid farewell to this Super Series.
In opening game of the match, Du Pengyu was completely on song as he outclassed his rival technically and tactically to finish this set with a notable difference of seven points.
He set the foundation of his dominance by gathering four consecutive points in the beginning and then widened the gap with 11-7 total at half time.
After one-minute break, he maintained this rhythm and strengthened his grip by registering 16-9 margin. He did not give his challenger even a single counter-attack opportunity and swept the table with 21-14 total.
The World Number 10 shuttler could not go with the same flow in the next game as he committed some serious mistakes which ultimately cost him a vital match point.
On the other hand, Takuma Ueda showed strong character even after a severe blow in the first set. He played with great conviction and counter-balanced the situation.
This time the Japanese shuttler launched a brisk attack and prevailed in some back-to-back rallies to pile up an indomitable figure of 11-6.
He made the best out of this initial lead in later part of the game and transformed this advantage into a decisive score position of 21-15.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking contest but the Chinese proved all predictions wrong by winning the third set with a ten-point difference.
He started the beating right from the first stroke and kept his challenger grounded all the way to final moment. Du Pengyu smacked Takuma Ueda down with a striking knock of 21-11.
