Du Plessis and Co produced a clinical performance to defeat the Black Caps by 33 runs in the third and final T20 International played in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday night, to clinch the three-match series 2-1. Earlier the Proteas had won the series opener by eight wickets before losing the second T20 encounter by the same margin.
The three-match T20 series will be followed by two Test matches – in Cape Town (January 2-6) and Port Elizabeth (January 11-15) – and Du Plessis said that they were looking forward to defending their No. 1 status in the longest format of the game by winning both the Test matches.
"Test cricket is such an awesome test of skill and we are all looking forward to the longer version of the game," Du Plessis, the stand in T20 skipper of South Africa, said at the post-match press conference after his side’s 33-run win in the Boxing Day T20 International.
"We are number one in the world now and we don't want to let the standards we've set slip," the 28-year-old Pretoria all-rounder added further.

"Personally, I'm really looking forward to joining up with the Test team again because it's such a special place to play Test cricket," said the right-hander, who scored a match-saving unbeaten century on his Test debut in Adelaide last month, before playing a key role in South Africa’s series clinching 309-run victory at Perth.
"I haven't played a home series in Test cricket so I can't wait to get to Cape Town," added the Pretoria batsman, who also bowls handy leg-spin.
