Question:

Dual Degree in Sociology and Journalism?

Okay so journalism is my strength but I am interested in sociology also. I want to get a degree in both at the same time so I won't end up going back to school when I'm 50 with grandkids trying to get another degree. How hard or hectic would my life in college be if I were to major in both of these fields? Would my social life suffer?

  1. I don't think so.  You have to choose a minor anyway, and in most cases, as with my degree in Sociology, it only takes about 6-8 additional courses to upgrade from a soc minor to a major.  After completing all core courses for graduation/degree requirements, you are usually left with a few electives in order to complete your total number of hours needed to graduate, so instead of filling your electives with basket weaving, you can fill the extra hours with your second major courses.

Also, a major in Soc is fairly easy.  It's worth it to double major in the long run.
