Question:

Dual Irish/American Citizen Has Questions About Jobs and Safe Home Program?

Hi. I am a dual Irish/American citizen. I have yet to get a passport, but my mother was born and grew up in Ireland so I don't foresee a problem.

Are there more people like me out there who have relocated to Ireland or another EU country?

What was your experience like in terms of employment?

Were most employers ok with you having grown up in America and now want to work in Europe?

Basically what was your experience like in terms of the actual move and job search?

I am finishing my master's degree right now in the states. Both of my college degrees are *** laude, does that matter to Irish employers?

Has anyone had a family member involved in the Safe Home program? My mother who left Ireland would like to go back and is 64 years of age. She is on a fixed income. Does anyone know what type of benefits transfer to Ireland-soc security, VA pension? What kind of benefits she would be eligible for from the Irish gov?Any other information on this program would be appreciated.

  1. Hi

I am kind of in the same situation as you are. I am Canadian/Dutch and my boyfriend Canadian/Irish and we moved from Canada to Dublin 2 years ago. There was no problems with employers in terms of us having lived abroad it kind of fascinated them. And since you have the Irish nationality you are Irish and you such view yourself as one. You have the same rights and responsibilities as anyone else. I do not regret moving to Dublin, it was hard at first, but go prepared, inform yourself about housing, taxes... before you go. But also inform yourself what you have to do before you leave the USA. How will you file your tax returns...

Also take references with you, bank statements from the past six months. That will help you to get a financial credit it Ireland, so that you can get a credit card, mortgage

These are some websites to look up.

    http://www.oasis.gov.ie

Government website, there is also a whole section about moving to Ireland

    www.daft.ie

good  site to find rental housing

    www.irishjobs.ie

hope this helps, it you have anymore specific questions you can email me..
