Question:

Dual Layer DVDs and Lightscribe DVDs?

Anyone having problems with these two formats of recordable DVDs?

Last year I burnt some Dual Layer DVDs and some Lightscribe DVDs. I finalized the discs, tested them and they worked fine. I could play the DVDs in couple of stand alone DVD players.

Now I tried playing these discs in the same players and they won't work. I played them in the original ROM that burnt them and the discs can't be recognized. All my regular DVD-R and DVD+R works fine, even DVD+RW gives me no problems.

So I lost some video that was stored on the Dual Layer and Lightscribe because I can't get it to play. I used Mad Dog Lightscribe DVD Recorder, HP Lightscribe DVD-R and Memorex DVD+DL.

Any reason why the disc, after a year, don't work?

  1. It's impossible...

cd's or dvd's and as well as light scribe dvd's any kind of them don't lose their data..

maybe some scrathes or mishandling might have done that..

  2. Is the disc warped, in the direct sunlight for a long period of time, is the surface fogged, is it scratched...it is probably some type of physical damage.  The image is difficult to damage, if it worked, it should work given no physical damage...check the surface and the dimensions of the disc.

  3. I'm sorry to hear of your problems and that you lost material because I have had no troubles at all with either DL or Lightscribe media.  I use an LG H55 nowadays for Lightscribe, but still have my LG 4167 installed with which I burned my earliest DL efforts.

Normally, I'd ask someone if they were buying quality media, but as you specify HP and Memorex (I use Memorex a lot) I can only suggest that you take up the maker's (limited) warranty on the media.  Even if they throw it out, they may at least tell you what has happened to the discs.

I can only suggest that there is something in your environment that is harmful to the discs, be it temperature, sunlight, whatever.  Sorry.
