Question:

Dual Tuner Receiver/DVR - can't watch & record 2 channels?

I've got a dual input DVR for my DirecTv, came with promises of being able to watch one channel while recording another... yet after trying a few different connection methods I'm still SOL. Anyone know how to set it up right? Do I need two separate runs from the antenna or can I split one at the DVR? Do I need two dishes?

First to get it workin gets the points (and my thanks!)

  1. If you want to try it yourself - go look at the dish and find where the cables go to the connector.  There will probably be 3 or 4 down and 2 or 3 coming out going into the house with 1 empty.  You go buy a cable and run it from that connector into the other coax input in the receiver.

I did it myself for a couple of reasons - there was only 1 prewire outlet in the room so I just rerouted both lines from the connector into the basement and up through the floor closer to the tv anyway.  I didn't feel like waiting another day for the dip to come back and do it right.  I think they do it this way on purpose to save them time on the initial install.  They suck.

  2. if its dual input thhan you can. call the douche from direct tv and have him do his job and connect it for ya

    good luck

  3. you need two cables from the antenna you can't split directv signals because is 100% digital.

if you got it from directly from directv  call them and ask them to send a tech that you are unable to install the DVR they should not change you anything.
