Question:

Dual booting XP and Slax?

Hi,

I am a 14 year old in a family and we have a piece-of-junk computer which is bogged down with viruses and using Windows XP. I have recently tried out the Linux distro "Slax" and it is a great operating system in a tiny package. My parents want me to install Slax on the computer but we need to still be able to use XP. How would I go about dual booting them? I have seen guides for Ubuntu but I've heard that when you install a new OS you need to edit some bootup file. Any help would be appreciated!

  1. I'm not sure if it comes built into slax, but the program you need is called "GRUB". That's what allows the dual booting.

Try posting on the slax forum and ask about it.

  2. im not really sure with slax, im using ubuntu, but as far as i know, when you install a linux distro, grub is always there, it will just install by itself, no need to edit bootup file. unless you will install another OS like a triple boot then.
