Dual powered calculator ( solar & battery ) needs battery to work. It this correct ?

My science teacher told us this type of calculator needs battery to work while my father said no.The battery just for back up.Please explain.

  1. No they make good pucks either way.  This is the hockey section...


  2. Some do, some don't. A battery on some is for backing up data in case the solar power disappears suddenly, and those often need one to work due to how the circuits are configured. However, others use the battery as an alternate power source, and those would not need the battery to work.

    However, you should buy the battery anyway. If it's primarily solar, it'll be a one time purchase anyway.

    Oh, and your science teacher probably has a lot more experience with calculators in general and that model specifically then your dad.
