Dual-standard (405/625) TV sets question?

I know that during the time of the 405- to 625-line transition, there were some dual-standard mono TVs made.

But did anyone ever make a 625-line **colour** TV set that was also capable of picking up 405-line mono broadcasts? Or were **all** colour sets made 625-line only?

  1. About 1965 there was indeed a dual standard CTV 405 / 625 ! it was made by Thorn Industries . I worked on them at the time for Thorns rental outlet DER ! ( Domestic Electric Rentals ) now Radio Rentals ! They were a cow of a set because they used an electro magnet to pull a long wafer switch along to change from 405 to 625 , besides the line speeds being switched there were also IF transformers and tuners ( VHF and UHF ) . With the electro magnet switch thrashing about in the set it created all sorts of voltage spikes and various other troubles ! . And yes there were some mono chrome duals standards made as well but all colour transmissions were on 625 UHF only ,  OH happy days !!!!!

    Cheers Pete
