Duane Below and Adam Wilk impress Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland – MLB Spring Training
The Tigers now have a mighty 9-1 win-loss record this spring. As expected, they have demonstrated their hitting power in each Major League Baseball Spring Training game.
Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera combined to form a master play two days ago to delight Tigers’ fans. While Detroit’s starter Justin Verlander has made a pretty decent start to his spring season campaign, the likes of Duane Below and Adam Wilk have not
disappointed their coaches either.
Below produced a good performance a couple of days ago when he gave up four hits, three walks and two strike-outs just over two innings. Adam Wilk has also pitched with good control and accuracy since the start of Spring Training Session.
Youngsters like Drew Smyly, Andy Oliver, Casey Crosby and Jacob Turner also in the mix for the available starting spot on pitching rotation. If the Tigers can guard their players from unwanted injuries and concussions, they will have a chance to win their
first World Series title in almost three decades.
"Wilk had a really good change-up," Leyland said. "I thought Wilkie really pitched good. I'm more anxious to find out how this all plays out than you are," he said. "You'll just have to be patient."
"I talked to him this morning and he told me he's not trying to go at it quite so hard," he added. "When he does, it's harder for him to slow down and get under control."
It is easy to figure out why Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland looks extremely satisfied these days. In an interview with a leading sports website, he talked about how his dreams can come true by the end of 2012 season.
Leyland and Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski wanted to make a team that was strong enough to win the World Series title. The Tigers have not won the World Series title since 1984 and the fans are now desperate to see their team perform miracles. Dombrowski
may have spent a good amount of Mike Ilitch’s fortune on Prince Fielder but he is now reaping the rewards of his risk taking.
