Duane Da Roche Marce seizes Women’s 100m back-stroke gold: Day three – Dutch Open LC Championships
Duane Da Roche Marce of Spain met expectations of her fans by improving the championship record of Women’s 100m back-stroke on last day of the 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Championships in Eindhoven on Sunday, December 4th.
Roche Marce not only captured gold medal of the back-stroke discipline but also lowered the championship mark of the event.
She was the first swimmer to leap into the water after the start of the race. With her immaculate strokes and exhausting strategy, she overwhelmed the efforts of her competitors and completed her first round in a fastest time of 30.04 seconds.
Karin Prinsloo of South Africa emerged as the second fastest swimmer in the first lap. Prinsloo remained 0.18 seconds slower than Roche Marce and ended her first half in a time of 30.22 seconds.
She was trailed by Sharon van Rouwendaal of EIFFELswimmersPSV, who followed her lead in the first round. She remained 0.30 seconds slower than her former finisher and completed her initial lap of the race with a timing of 30.34 seconds.
The Spanish swimmer picked up her pace in the final lap, where she demonstrated her gruelling efforts. With her strongest arm-stroke, Marce became prominent for gold medal in the second lap, where she reached the finishing end in a time of 1 minute and 00.92
seconds for gold medal.
Her time was comfortably under the championships record of 1 minute and 02.02, made by Rouwendaal in 2009. She remained nearly 2.50 seconds slower than the world mark of 58.12 seconds, owned by Gemma Spofforth of Great Britain from 2009.
The second position of the event was occupied by Rouwendaal, who remained 0.23 seconds slower from the champion and ended her sprint in a time of 1 minute and 01.15 seconds. she was trailed by Prinsloo, who remained 0.58 seconds slower and settled on the
victory stand for bronze medal with an effort of 1 minute and 01.73 seconds.
Roche Marce received a huge round of applause from arena for her splendid efforts in the back-stroke swim while the session ended after the completion of all listed events.
