Dubai Desert Classic: Updates from third round
Rory McIlroy’s has fallen from the top after encountering four bogeys in the front while sun has begun to shine over Tiger Woods on the back nine during the on-going Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2011 golf tournament.
McIlroy opened the third round with an aggregate of 11-under as a leader. He picked eight birdies in the first round and four in the second against two bogeys.
However, he failed to maintain the pace with what he started. The 2009 winner of Dubai Desert Classic chose to tee from the front and rushed into a bogeyman on the opening holes. He bogeyed the first three holes and proceeded further with an iron in his
hand, but that did no good to his scorecard as he settled at par.
McIlroy smashed a tee shot at the treacherous par-3 seventh, which cut short and fell in the rough. The golfer then tamed an iron at the green but failed to earn a par.
However, he managed to earn a birdie on the ninth hole and wrapped the front nine with a score of three-over-par.
On his way to the back, the 21-year-old bogeyed the 11th hole, but countered it off soon with a three-foot long birdie on the 12th. He then smashed a tee shot which left him three feet away from the flag. He walked towards the green
and after a careful analysis, putted for a birdie.
Meanwhile, Woods encountered two bogeys in the opening holes and a birdie on the third hole. He faced more trouble on the following holes when he missed his putt for par at the eighth hole. The 35-year-old then dropped a second shot in the bunker on the
left of the green on the ninth hole and signed for a double-bogey six.
However, that was the end of a poor run as the 14-time major winner eagled the opening hole of back nine and birdied the next. Tiger is at par after fifteen holes and needs three more birdies to level McIlroy’s score.
