Dubai Duty Free 2011: Caroline Wozniacki cruises into quarters
Danish sensation Caroline Wozniacki is on her way back to the top of world rankings as she secured an easy win against the young Japanese Ayumi Morita to enter the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2011.
The world number 2 was clinical as she recorded a straight sets victory over the upcoming Japanese star.
Wozniacki looked in a destructive mood right from the beginning of the match as she raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set before Morita managed to get her first game on the scoreboard.
The Dane quickly wrapped up the first set 6-1 with her next service game. Wozniacki was seen playing in a completely new manner, giving her opponent no chance to come back into the match. She took the second set as well without dropping a single game to complete a 6-1, 6-0 win within 52 minutes of play.
Wozniacki said, “I feel like I’ve been playing really well at practice. And I was playing really well today. I knew how Ayumi was playing and how she was going to play. She’s had a good week, so I was really pleased about the match today.”
The Dane experienced some problems in her first match against Anna Chakvetadze though, who retired after she fainted on the court to hand an easy win to her opponent.
“The first match is always tough,” Wozniacki said after her first appearance at the championships. “You need to get into the rhythm of playing the tournament. It’s always different from tournament to tournament how you feel, how you feel the balls are playing.”
Wozniacki will now face Israel’s Shahar Peer in the quarterfinal who has a great record at this event. The 20-year-old will be hoping to put in another great performance in the quarterfinal against her Israeli opponent as she would regain the number one spot from the Belgian Kim Clijsters with a win.
