Dubai Masters: Caroline Masson inches forward cautiously, shares third spot in second round
German Caroline Masson maintained her momentum in the second round of the season-ending Dubai Masters, posting a 68 to stand at the third position along with other three players.
Masson, who is seeking to win the 2012 money title, started the four-round LET (Ladies European Tour) event in style, keeping most of her archrivals at a distance in the first two rounds.
At the end of the second round, the German star stood five strokes behind the leader Shanshan Feng who posted a combined score of 131.
Masson shot five birdies on Thursday—something reflecting the ambitious star is eager to remain in contention till the end of the tournament.
She started the round with confidence as she fired a birdie on the first hole. She then parred the next two holes and shot another birdie on the difficult par-3 4th.
Masson had to suffer a bogey on the 5th hole, but was quick to bounce back. She was back to being aggressive when she started the back nine holes.
The LET titan fired two consecutive birdies on the 10th and 11th hole.
Speaking to the media about her performance on Thursday, Masson said that she did not find it difficult to score, but the pressure was apparently more intense than it was on the first day.
“Well, the same score as yesterday.  I think I played well again.  I hit many greens and just made one bogey where I just didn't have a shot after my tee shot,” said the German golfer who
gave a miss to the last LET tournament—Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012.
“Overall, it was a good round.  Could have dropped a few more putts to go really low, but all in all, I'm quite happy with that”.
Masson ranks second in the ISPS Handa Order of Merit 2012. In order to overtake the leader Carlota Ciganda of Spain, Masson will need at least a third-place finish.
So far, Masson has proved that she is pursuing her goal to become money leader cautiously, however, it remains to be seen how she tackles pressure in the final two rounds.
Ciganda stood at the 8th position after she shot an overall 138.
