Dubai Prince came back with a bang in his comeback race at Newbury, and also a winning debut for Godolphin
Dubai Prince, who was sidelined because of an injury he incurred, has now come back to run for his new owner, Godolphin, and trainer, Mahmood Al Zarooni, making a winning debut in a minor event at Newbury.
Dubai Prince, 3 of 3 in as many starts, was bought by Godolphin a few months back, and due to an injury couldn’t run immediately.
He is also four months late to run in the Classics, but he will make it up for his new owners and that’s the reason why they bought him and have been so patient with him.
On 16 September, Dubai Prince marked his debut for his new owners in the Dubai Duty Free Conditions Stakes at Newbury, run over a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong on a ground labelled good to soft.
The son of Shamardal, out of Desert Frolic by Persian Bold, Dubai Prince under jockey Kieren Fallon, took on four other opponents.
The William Haggas trained and Richard Hughes ridden colt Penitent took the lead from the start.
Richard Hughes guided his colt and towed the field for about 2 furlongs from the wire.
Dubai Prince, meanwhile, was coming off the pace and tracked the leader four furlongs out.
The crucial movement was eminent by Dubai Prince and he disputed for the lead from the 2 to 1 protagonist, Penitent.
The 8 to 1 favourite, Jet Away, always looked in contention, but he was a little slow to get into his strides.
Meanwhile, Kieren Fallon pushed Dubai Prince to put it to bed by snatching the lead from Penitent.
With the final furlong to go, Dubai Prince got his lead and never looked back, winning comfortably by 2 ½ lengths over the runner-up, Jet Away.
Penitent came third, Togiak fourth and Bolivia came in fifth to complete the order of finish.
The next target for the unbeaten three-year-old colt would be the Champion Stakes at Ascot on 15 October, 2011, where Dubai Prince is cut to 12 to 1 from 33 to 1 by Victor Chandler.
