Dubai Prince returns to the races after being sidelined for almost a year to run for Godolphin for the first time in a Conditions Stakes race.
The 3-year-old bay colt, Dubai Prince, and his connections would have been looking forward to the year 2011, after the colt’s flawless run in 2010 where he was 2 of 2 in as many starts.
However, injury struck Dubai Prince couldn’t participate in the 2011 Derby and the 2,000 Guineas, where he would have been a leading contender to win the race.
Owned by Godolphin now, the son of Shamardal is ready to make his return to the races after recovering from a hairline fracture he suffered around his pelvic region, which consequently sidelined him for the Classic.
Out of Desert Frolic by Persian Bold, Dubai Prince will make his Godolphin debut in the Dubai Duty Free Conditions Stakes at Newbury on 16 September, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile and 1 furlong, on a ground labelled good to soft.
Dubai Prince will be under jockey Kieren Fallon in the Conditions Stakes, and he will face 5 other rivals in his first race in 326 days, with the likes of William Haggas trained Penitent, who also won the William Hill Lincoln Heritage Handicap at Doncaster
last year.
Prior to the injury, Dubai Prince broke his maiden in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden division 2 at Gowran Park on 25 September, 2010.
The race was run over a distance of 1 mile, and Dubai Prince, under P J Smullen, represented his trainer, D K Weld.
The pair chased leaders in 3rd, and from there disputed the lead, got to the front and hit the wire, 1 length ahead of Seville, to win the maiden race in Dubai Prince's first attempt.
In the field of 8, Dubai Prince made his debut in a graded stakes' race for his second start. It was the Leopardstown feature race, the Grade 3 JRA Killavullan Stakes on 25 October, 2011.
P J Smullen aboard the colt for the second time, placed Dubai Prince in 3rd place, and remained in that position, entering the stretch.
Under strong urging of P J Smullen, Dubai Prince got the lead with 1 ½ furlongs to go. The pair soon quickened and parted the rest of the field quite easily and impressively kept on racing well in the final furlong to win the race by 3 ½ lengths over Warning
