Dubai Prince set to steal the Sky Bet Strensall Stakes
The Godolphin owned, Dubai Prince gets the nod for the Group 3 Sky Bet Strensall Stakes as the 5 to 1 entry for the race has been victorious at the same distance twice before. The mile and 208 yards race will be contested by eight three-year and above contenders
for the £42,533 prize money on Friday, 24th August at York. There are only two entries who have won through the last race but the level at which they won is not really compatible with the challenge that has presented itself today.
Shamardal’s bay colt has won a group race just once and that too through the second outing of the career. He responded to the first asking of clearing the maiden and held an entry in Group 3 JRA Killavullan Stakes on 25th October, 2010 at Leopardstown
over seven furlongs.
The favourite entry landed the race by the margin of 3 ½ lengths with Pat Smullen onboard and set Sweet Orange as the runner-up.
The exciting beginning to the racing career of the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained did not end here as after bagging the seasonal debut the four-year-old bay colt struck a hat-trick right through the first three outings of the career.
Dubai Prince won the Dubai Duty Free Conditions Stakes on 16th September, 2011 at Newbury over a mile and a furlong. He defeated Jet Away by 2 ½ lengths. The race marks the first time when the Irish bay colt won over the distance that he will
race through today.
The performance curve of the bay colt out of, Desert Frolic, took a dreadful downward slope as he remained unsuccessful in the next three races that followed. All the attempts were in graded company and each time the Godolphin owned proved that he lacked
what it took to take down the competition at that level.
He finally took a break from losing and grabbed the Ken Hodgson Memorial Stakes (Conditions Race) on 13th July, 2012 at York over a mile and a furlong. He dodged the evening’s favourite into the second slot due to the final 4 ½ lengths that were
in his favour.
The next failure made it a fourth time that he lost a graded event.
The four-year-old entry does not really have any excuse for missing the race today as an additional favourable element is the jockey, Frankie Dettori.
