Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012’s second fixture comes to an end on 12thJanuary
As the excitement and thrill of the Dubai World Cup Carnival 2012 continues to entice people, it has also brought an end to its second fixture.
The Meydan Masters International Jockeys’ Championship concluded on 6th January, and after a break of six days, the event proceeds as the next fixture kicks off.
The prime features of this fixture were the UAE 2,000 Guineas Trial, sponsored by Etisalat, and the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1, also sponsored by Etisalat.
The seven race program started off with the $55,000 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1. It was raced over 1,600 metres, and was won by the French horse, Sahib Du Clos, followed by, Kandar Du Falgas in second, and the anticipated winner of the race, Af Alghabra,
finished seventh.
Next in line was the $110,000 Etisalat My Plan, which was raced over a distance of 1,400 metres.
The race was won by D Watson trained, Barbecue Eddie, and the 9 to 4 favourite of the race, Red Gulch, entered by Mahmood Al Zarooni, finished eighth.
The third race of the day was the $120,000 Etisalat Elife, raced over 1,200 metres, and was won by David Nicholls trained Addictive Dream, while Marco Botti conditioned Bohemian Melody, who was the 5 to 2 favourite for the race, finished fifth.
The $50,000 UAE 2,000 Guineas Trial was won by Dark Matter, who is under S Burridge’s charge.
The 8 to 11 favourite of the race, Rassam, entered by Saeed bin Suroor, managed a third place finish in the race, while Mahmood Al Zarooni's Kinglet
claimed the runner up’s position.
The fifth race of the day was the $110,000 Etisalat My Data Plan, over a track distance of 2,410 metres.
It was won by the 2 to 1 favourite of the race, Naqshabban, who was entered by Mahmood Al Zarooni, while Saeed bin Suroor trained Emirates Champion came third in the race.
The most awaited race of the day was the $200,000 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1, which was won by Musir, who is trained by De Kock, while both the entries from Saeed bin Suroor finished one after the other, Secrecy finished third and the 7 to 4 favourite
of the race, Mendip came fourth.
Mahmood Al Zarooni trained Xin Xu Lin failed miserably to complete the order of finish.
The last and the final race of the day was the $120,000 Etisalat 4G, that was taken over by Saeed bin Suroor's Songcraft.
The race had two entries from Mahmood Al Zarooni, who finished one behind the other, Rostrum came fourth while Nationalism finished fifth.
Crossing the wire in sixth was Saeed bin Suroor trained, 10 to 11 favourite of the race, Alkimos.
