Dubai World Cup draws a massive and a competitive field at Meydan – part 1
The winner of the Group 1, $10 million Dubai World Cup at the Meydan, will take the $6 million lion’s share of the purse, but for that to happen for any of the fourteen contenders, they will have to take down world class horse’s over Meydan’s Tapeta surface,
which does not make things easier for those who have seldom raced over the surface.
However, we are talking about top runners from multiple continents, surely then will overcome the surface conundrums, and give the fans and the race goers a legendary race.
Shedding some light on the contenders, ex Aidan O’Brien trainee is now trained by a very successful trainer at the Meydan, Michael De Kock.
Master of Hounds has raced 4 times under his new trainer’s conditioning and went on to land placed finishes in all his starts for the trainer and won the Group 1 Jebel Hatta in his last race. He is sent with the odds of 12 to 1.
The 10 to 1 choice, Eishin Flash, will always be a favourite to win the World Cup if there is a lot of speed in the race. The winner of the Japanese Derby back in 2010, Eishin Flash runs well over longer distance, and the World Cup’s distance
of 1 ¼ miles is right up his alley.
The major player in the Dubai World Cup, Zazou, is sent as the 15 to 1 choice. The German-bred relishes longer distance over synthetic surfaces and he will be a force to be reckoned with come the World Cup night.
The 5 to 1 choice, So You Think, is considered to be the favourite to win the Dubai World Cup, but the Aidan O’Brien trained horse is exiting a sixth place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, and has never run over the synthetic
surface, which could work against him. But he is a class horse none the less, and will come over the surface issues if he breaks well and gets himself into contention at later stages of the race.
Breaking from post number 5, we have the multi-millionaire, Smart Falcon, who has flown in from Japan, to ruin everybody’s day. The horse has the ability to run down the best at the World Cup distance of 1 ¼ miles, and he has done so 9 times
out of 13 starts, with two runner-up finishes. With the whopping $11 million in earnings, Smart Falcon has kept the legendary jockey Yutaka Take for the World Cup.
